Harmony award conferred

NEW DELHI: The founder of the Art of Living and International Association for Human Values, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, was conferred the Dara Shikoh Award for Harmony-2005 by Rajya Sabha member Karan Singh here on Thursday.

Accepting the award, instituted by the Inter Faith Harmony Foundation of India, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said: "Nature honours diversity. This country shows that it is possible to be with differences and with a smile too. People need to awaken and realise the fundamental unity of the human family."

Speaker takes stock of PDS

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Assembly Speaker, Chaudhary Prem Singh, on Thursday convened a meeting of the Food and Supply Department Circle Advisory Committee of Ambedkar Nagar at his residence.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Singh expressed anguish at the functioning of the Food and Supply office. After looking into the complaints of consumers with regard to non-preparation of ration cards, Mr. Singh asked officials to take immediate measures for upgrading the public distribution system. He told the officials to check the issuance of bogus ration cards.

Palika Suvidha Kendra inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated New Delhi Municipal Council's third Palika Suvidha Kendra at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Place here on Wednesday.

The Kendra will issue different documents/certificates such as birth and death certificates, licences from the Health Department, approval of building plans and issue of tender documents besides providing services pertaining to booking of `barat ghars', receiving payment of property tax, electricity/water bills, estate bills and enforcement challans.

Cables stolen, phone services hit

NEW DELHI: Two underground cables were stolen from manhole No.2 near the Idgah telephone exchange in the Capital on Wednesday.

According to Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, about 2,300 phones of Nabi Karim, Multani Dhanda, Ram Nagar, Arakasha Road, D.B. Gupta Road, Kutub Road, Rani Jhansi Road and Idgah Road were affected.

Restoration work has started and will be completed in three to four days.

Training for artisans

NEW DELHI: KPJ Prabhu Artisan Training Production and Marketing Centre will impart long-term training in traditional arts in stone and wood carving, sheet metal embossing and metal casting/carving (18 months period) and terracotta (12 months period) free of cost including boarding and lodging at Jogardoddi in Bangalore.

Interested unemployed male youths between 18 and 35 years with a minimum qualification of Class XII pass can attend the test-cum-interview at Jogardoddi on August 20.
