BIG HIT: Time to cash in on the kite season. Photo: Sandeep Saxena
NEW DELHI: They have long been identified with the Delhi skies, especially during August. And this time round kites will be doing more than raising a fury across the Capital's blue blanket on Independence Day. To be stringed and swung across the skies for a unique cause, the "paper wonder" will be lending a helping hand to spread health awareness in the city. Inaugurating and setting afloat "health kites" at a function here on Thursday, Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri said kites are a "wonderful cost effective methodology of creating health awareness. These kites will be a form of health pamphlets as they are in the air and visible to the public. One-line health messages in the form of `health sutras' will be used to spread awareness in Delhi or any other area through kites in the sky.'' The launch of the health kite festival also earmarked the Delhi Medical Association's (DMA) Foundation Day. Speaking on the occasion, DMA president K.K. Aggarwal said: "Health education through kites can be used by any city as they are a cost-effective mode for creating awareness. Thousands of kites would be distributed free to general public to be flown on or around the Independence Day.'' The health kites will carry messages likes "If you are above 40 years old, get your eyes checked up for glaucoma'; `Don't go to a quack, they can be dangerous to your life'; `Participate in polio-bharat chodo andolan'; and `Prevent dengue and malaria, clean your cooler every Sunday'.
