NALGONDA: The stage is set for the environmental public hearing for the Rs.5,216.6 crore Godavari Lift Irrigation Scheme at the Mandal Parishad Office at mandal headquarters of Valigonda in Nalgonda district on Friday. The proposed scheme envisages lifting of water from the Godavari for irrigating 6.47 lakh acres in Karimnagar, Warangal, Nalgonda and Medak districts. Since a narrow strip of the canal goes through the Nalgonda district, the Pollution Control Board seeks to solicit public opinion on the project.
In Warangal
According to the official sources, the project is proposed near Gangaram village of Warangal district, about 10 km downstream of proposed Inchampally dam site and 7 km upstream of Devadula. The Godavari water is proposed to be lifted and conveyed through a pipe line in multi stages with several intermediate pumping stations and inter connected tanks located en route. While the main pipeline would traverse up to Dharmasagar tank at head of project service area in Warangal district, there are two off-line pressurised pipelines for giving secondary lifts in the command areas in Nalgonda district. As many as 1.494 lakh acres in 93 villages in eight mandals--Alair, Yadagirigutta, Bhongir, Valigonda, Ramannapet, Atmakur(M), Mothkur and Gundala-- would be irrigated in Nalgonda district due to the Godavari Lift Irrigation Scheme.
