COIMBATORE: Invitations have been sent to farmer associations. Posters are all around the place. The annual agriculture fair, Agri Intex 2005, is back in town at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex. It will be on till August 16.

Organised by Coimbatore District Small Industries Association, in association with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and Avinashilingam University, the fair has 200 stalls.

The Southern Region Krishi Mela is also held as part of the fair.

The focus this year is to encourage growth and development of agricultural entrepreneurs and transfer of technology from the laboratory to field.

This year also there are certain innovations and new equipment for agricultural entrepreneurs to look into.

"Snowball tendernut" is a technology developed by Central Plantation Crops Research Institute where a kernel of a seven to eight-month tender coconut is neatly carved out with water in it. It looks like a snowball ready to be served.

The Coconut Development Board offers assistance to those interested in buying this machine. Indian Association for Savings and Credit offers micro-finance to self-help groups and individuals of economically backward sections for housing, farming and non-farming activities and other economic activities. Avinashilingam University has made arrangements to demonstrate conservation and processing to preserve perishable food.

The Department of Horticulture and Plantation Crops has displayed a variety of fruits and flowers.

Apart from those belonging to State and Central Government departments, irrigation systems, cattle feed, weighing machine, lawn mowers, pumps and motors, solar fencing, financial institutions and vermicompost are the other exhibits.
