Approval for Dabhol revival
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Thursday approved revival of the 2185 MW Dabhol Power Project through Ratnagiri Gas and Power the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) set up for the purpose by the two State-owned joint venture partners of the revival programme, GAIL India Limited and the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
The Enron-promoted showcase privatisation power project has been mothballed for years on account of stoppage of generation as the Maharashtra State Electricity Board failed to make payments.
After settlement with the original partners, GE and Bechtel, following Enron's liquidation, the responsibility of reviving and operating the project was given to GAIL and NTPC.
While the NTPC is to operate and maintain the project, GAIL has yet to complete work on the LNG jetty.
