CHENNAI: : Scores of children thronged the St. Ebba's Girl's Higher Secondary to colour the canvas of what they thought the motherland was about.

The India Art contest, organised by Aavishkaar India recently, drew students from various city schools.

Eager parents in cars and two-wheelers accompanied their wards, jamming Radhakrishnan Salai.

Students between class III and VIII used sketch pens, watercolours and pencils to put across their thoughts of the country's heritage, culture, people and places. All this was planned a week ahead of Independence Day.

Thinking process

Parents also actively participated in the thinking process despite repeated entreaties from the organisers.

"These paintings will be exhibited on August 14 at the same venue and prizes distributed," said Sumitha Sundaram of Aavishkaar.
