CHENNAI:
A city girl has been floating in water since Thursday to enter the Limca Book of Records as woman achiever.
S. Thajoomi alias Teja, a 24-year-old resident of Villivakkam, began floating in the Marina swimming pool at 3 a.m. on Thursday morning.
When she learnt of the present national record of Ramesh Kulkarni (37), who floated for 24 hours and 12 minutes, she decided to break the record.
She took up swimming as a hobby only six months ago.
Surrounded by enthusiastic friends, Thajoomi said, "I began to practice intensively and was trained by swimming coachers who also teach police personnel."
Thajoomi wants to set a new record, as there is no separate category for women in swimming.
Her feat allows her to take an hour's break between every six hours of floating.
Her floating feat is being monitored by Limca Book of Records representatives and will end by Friday noon. The Joint Commissioner of Police, (North) Greater Chennai, C. Sylendra Babu, visited the venue to encourage Thajoomi during her attempt.
