Sikhs to hold protest demonstration

Members of the Sikh community will hold a protest demonstration by wearing black badges on Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Central Gurduwara Saheb, Gowlidugda, demanding punishment to the culprits of 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Later, a 10-member delegation of different Prabhandak Committees of Gurudwaras will submit a memorandum to Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde.

The protest programme was decided at an emergency meeting held on Thursday.

SISI seminar

Small Industries Service Institute (SISI) will organise a seminar on jatropha cultivation and bio-diesel processing on August 26 at SISI conference hall, Balanagar.

Interested farmers, entrepreneurs and seed company representatives may contact K. Jayachandiran, Deputy Director or V.V. Prasad, Assistant Director, over the phone Nos. 23078131/132/133. Registration will be done on the first-come-first-served basis, according to a press release.

ABVP rally today

In connection with the centenary celebrations of the Vandemataram movement, Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is taking out a rally from Sri Krishnaveni School in Chaitanyapuri on August 12.

The rally will culminate into a public meeting at the Ideal Junior College in Dilsukhnagar where 2,650 students will sing Vandemataram.

Cooking contest

Mother Dairy will organise a cooking contest for women of 18 years and above on August 14 at Janapriya Township near Tarnaka.

Peace award

District Collector Arvind Kumar has invited applications for Gandhi peace award 2005 from individuals and institutions for their outstanding contributions towards social, economic and political uplift of less privileged sections of society through Gandhian methods.

The individuals and institutions in twin cities should have worked for a period of ten years. Interested persons may send their entries to the D-I section of collectorate on or before August 16.
