MADURAI: Assembly Speaker K. Kalimuthu called upon officials and those concerned with rescuing and rehabilitating child labourers to instil confidence among the rescued children and groom them to take up gainful vocation on their own. Inaugurating the training of trainers programme on life skills, managerial and entrepreneurship skills for vocational instructors of the ILO - INDUS project at a function organised by the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (Tamil Nadu) at Perungudi here on Thursday, Dr. Kalimuthu said rescued children should be provided a congenial atmosphere to foster career-oriented development. Though studies were relevant to help them come up in life, it should not be considered as the basics for success in life, he said. The children should be taught that a lot could be achieved with the aid of their skills only if they oriented their attention in the right direction. "All one has to do is to provide them this opportunity," he said.
`Help administration'
Presiding over, Collector D. Raajendiran appealed to the members of the self-help groups to help the administration in identifying child labourers in the district and thereby facilitate their rehabilitation. Member-Secretary of CED (TN) R. Jayaraman said the CED had been entrusted with the task of training the trainers under the ILO - INDUS project. Nearly 25 persons were participating in the 12-day training programme. Earlier, the Speaker gave away certificates to presidents of women SHGs who underwent vocational training conducted by the CED recently. The Regional Joint Director of Employment and Training, K. Panneer Selvam, the Project Officer of Mahalir Thittam, M. Prabhakaran, the President of CED (TN), K. Aludiapillai, and a senior consultant, Joel Bhose, spoke.
