Accuses latter of associating with person facing criminal charges

  • DCP Sanjay accused of harbouring Mohan
  • Punjagutta police have booked case against Mohan
  • Mohan absconding since August 3
  • `Sanjay spoke to Mohan on mobile on August 5'

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Police Commissioner, V. Dinesh Reddy, on Thursday wrote to the State Government to suspend the West Zone DCP, N. Sanjay, accusing him of harbouring a person facing criminal charges, it is learnt.

Sources said the Commissioner had sent letters to the Director General of Police and Chief Secretary citing documentary evidence of the DCP's alleged association with a person, Mohan, who has been absconding from August 3 after the Punjagutta police booked a criminal case against him.

The Commissioner reportedly told the Government that there was irrevocable evidence that the DCP had spoken to the absconding Mohan over the mobile phone 16 times on August 5.

The DCP was on bandobust duty for the President's visit to the city that day, the Commissioner had pointed out, it is learnt.

The complainant in the Panjagutta case was a dentist Sudhir Chowdhary who charged that the non-resident Indian, Mohan, got his wife treated at the former's clinic, but refused to pay the fee. The dentist alleged that Mohan further got him implicated in a false case using his connections with the DCP.

Subsequently, the Commissioner ordered an inquiry into the allegations by the Additional Police Commissioner, Tejdeep Kaur Menon, who reportedly found that the DCP was at fault. Apart from the Panjagutta case, the Commissioner received complaints that Mohan had duped several persons with false promises of securing jobs in the US.

The Commissioner, it is learnt, maintained that the DCP had failed to mend his ways notwithstanding counselling by superiors with regard to his alleged association with Mohan.

Mr. Sanjay was not available for comment.
