HYDERABAD: A new range of lifestyle accessories and handicraft products designed by the students of the National Institute of Fashion Technology will be showcased here on Friday. The event, `NIFT Graduation: Design Showcase-05', to mark the graduation of the second batch of students of the Department of Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories (FLA), will have as many as 400 unique lifestyle accessories on display at Hotel Taj Krishna. Giving the details here on Thursday, the NIFT Director, D. L. Sundar, said the department was started in 2001 to provide world-class design education to train promising talent to satisfy the demand for designers in industries, design houses and also equip students to become freelancers and entrepreneurs. Eighteen students developed the product designs in mixed media handicrafts, glass, tableware and ceramic ware during the six-month real life industry experience as part of their final year curriculum. A number of stone carving, clay, terracotta and cane products would also be on display. Mr. Sundar said that all the first batch and most of the second batch students found placements, mostly in industries where they did their project work. He said the four-year programme includes designing, technology and management aspects.
