Subhashan Reddy is SHRC chief

HYDERABAD:
B. Subhashan Reddy, former Chief Justice of Madras High Court, has been appointed the first chairman of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).
A GO appointing Justice Reddy as chairman, a retired High Court judge, P. Ramakrishnam Raju, and a retired district judge, E. Ismail, as members was issued on Thursday. Two non-official members of the commission will be appointed in due course.
The members will hold office till the age of 70 years or for a period of five years whichever is earlier. This is the first human rights commission to come into existence in the State and will supersede a committee that is looking into human rights violations.
Justice Reddy is likely to assume office on Friday.
