KOCHI: The general secretary of the National Congress(Indira) N. Venugopal has condemned the statement made on Wednesday by KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala denouncing K. Karunakaran. Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, Mr. Venugopal said NC(I) workers would not excuse Mr. Chennithala unless he apologised within 48 hours. "The Chaitanya Yatra undertaken by Mr. Chennithala has been funded by finance companies. He is making such statements following allegations of corruption levelled against him. In fact, many UDF leaders are protecting the errant finance companies," the NC(I) leadersaid. A Cherai-based chit fund group has always maintained close links with office-bearers and Ministers of the UDF. A CBI inquiry should made into the Kanichikulangara accident, Mr. Venugopal said.
