THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A four-year-old boy, Jessir, was drowned in a pond at Varkala on Thursday afternoon. Jessir was playing when he slipped and fell into the pond near his house, the Varkala police have said.
Molestation bid: one held
The Vizhinjam police have arrested a 40-year-old man, Benziger, on the charge of attempting to molest an eight-year-old girl. He was remanded in judicial custody.
Arms Act: four held
The Peroorkada police have arrested four youths on the charge of violating the Arms Act. The accused were identified as Sudhir, Krishnadas, Sunil Dutt and Suresh. An official said a sword and a machete were recovered from the accused. They were remanded in judicial custody.
Ganja sale: man held
The City Police have arrested a 27-year-old man on the charges of selling ganja near the Housing Board junction on Thursday evening. The police said Nazar, 27, of Thiruvallam, was arrested on a tip-off and 665 gm of ganja recovered from him.
Wanted men held
The Kovalam police have arrested a 30-year-old man wanted in connection with several cases of assault in the city. The accused was identified as Vijayan alias `Kozhiyala' Vijayan. He was remanded to 14 days in judicial custody. The Vattappara police have arrested a 24-year-old wanted in several cases, including murder, in the district. Sub-Inspector (SI) S.Y. Suresh identified the accused as Rajesh alias `Tarzan' Rajesh. The SI said Rajesh had "attempted suicide" in custody by banging his head against the wall of the police lock-up. Rajesh was remanded in judicial custody.
Admitted with burns
A 55-year-old woman, Thankamma, of Balaramapuram, was admitted to the Medical College Hospital here with serious burns. The local police suspect the woman to have attempted suicide by dousing herself with kerosene.
Clash at college
Several persons were injured when two senior and junior students clashed at Engineering College, Thiruvananthapuram, on Thursday. Circle Inspector, Medical College, K.E. Baiju, said a minor altercation between two students resulted in the violence. The police have taken some students into custody in connection with the incident. He said Thursday's violence was sequel to a dispute between the students on Wednesday.
