NEW DELHI: A 71-year-old retired marketing and advertising manager of the State Trading Corporation has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly running a prostitution racket in his house. Six women, one of whom was associated with television and theatre, have also been arrested. Following a tip-off, a Crime Branch team had sent a decoy customer at the house of Shiva Ram Gupta, a resident of Sita Ram Bazar, on Wednesday. After the deal was struck, the police raided the house and arrested Shiv Ram and six women, aged between 19 and 28. The police said Shiv Ram was fond of women since his younger days and never married. He owned a palatial house in Sita Ram Bazar and belonged to a wealthy family. While his grand father was a Rai Bahadur during the British Raj, his father was associated with Hindi film industry as an exhibitor in the 1940s. After retiring in 1990 as a marketing and advertising manager from the State Trading Corporation -- which he had joined in 1957 after completing his post-graduate in commerce from Sri Ram College of Commerce and a law degree -- he turned the house into an apartment building.
