Congress for talks on State development

Staff Reporter

Chennithala denies having called Karunakaran a Shikhandi

MALAPPURAM: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala has said the Congress will enter into a dialogue with other political parties to arrive at a long-term understanding on matters of development.

Talking to presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Chennithala said the KPCC would take the initiative to evolve a development strategy for the State.

He denied having called K. Karunakaran, National Congress(I) leader, a Shikhandi. "I did not mean Mr. Karunakaran. Neither did I refer to anyone personally." It was a newspaper that misquoted him and the party had taken legal action against that paper, he said.

The KPCC chief challenged the Communist Party of India(Marxist) to come for a direct fight rather than using others to fight him. Mr. Chennithala was noncommittal on implementing the Narendran Commission report. The issue was so hot that it could burn one's fingers. It requires more time to implement the report. The KPCC would strive for a consensus among different communities before implementing the report.

Mr. Chennithala said the party's mouthpiece Veekshanam would be re-launched on October 2. He said the KPCC would interfere to ensure humanitarian treatment for the PDP leader Abdul Nasir Maudany..
