BELGAUM: Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh on Friday announced a Rs. 300- crore package to provide compensation to farmers and people affected by recent floods in the State. The scheme will be implemented "immediately." The scheme includes waiver of land revenue for the current year, but only in villages submerged during the recent floods. Announcing the package here, Mr. Singh announced the amounts to be given to each and every affected farmer/family for loss of crops, houses and cattle. He promised to take steps to rephrase loans including crop loans with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. The Chief Minister, who made an aerial survey of flood-hit areas in the district along with Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs H.K. Patil, visited relief camps in Chikkodi and Sankaratti in the afternoon. All the fully submerged 47 villages in Athani, Raibag and Chikkodi taluks will be shifted to new colonies. Once the new settlements are ready, the affected families will be shifted. The Government will approach the NABARD for providing refinance to the co-operative banks and other banks for lending a second crop loan during the season. As per the guidelines of the Centre, an assistance of Rs. 10,000 will be provided to damage in respect of a pucca house and Rs. 6,000 for a kuchha house. In respect of the irrigation pumpsets, an ex-gratia amount ranging from Rs. 9,400 for one HP pump to Rs.24,000 for 7.5 HP pumpsets will be given. Similarly, for the loss or irreparable damage to diesel pumps, an ex-gratia amount ranging from Rs. 18,300 for 3 HP pumps to Rs. 22,500 for 5 HP pumps will be given. In case of dug wells, where silt is accumulated, Rs. 5,000 will be given for removing silt. Mr. Singh said the compensation will be Rs. 10,000 for a she buffalo (improved), Rs. 8,000 for she buffalo (local); Rs. 6,000 for buffalo, Rs. 5,000 for buffalo heifer and Rs. 2,000 for calf loss. In respect of cross breed cattle, Rs. 11,000 will be given for loss of cow (Rs. 3,000 for local breed), Rs. 6,000 for Heifer (Rs. 1,500 for local breed), Rs. 3,000 for calf (Rs. 800 for local breed), Rs. 1,600 for sheep, Rs.1,500 for goat and Rs. 8,700 for bullock.
