Jail term, fine for Euro Lottery `winner'

VIJAYAWADA:
Kola Krishna Mohan of the fake Euro Lottery fame was sentenced to three years' rigorous imprisonment and a hefty fine of Rs. 25 lakhs by the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, P. Prabhakar Rao, in a cheque bounce case here on Friday.
According to the prosecution, Krishna Mohan had borrowed money from Lingamaneni Venkateswara Rao, Nandamuri Lakshmi Rani and Nandamuri Venkata Venugopala Rao of the city in 1999 when he claimed that he had won Euro Lottery netting a huge prize of Rs. 80 crores. Krishna Mohan had issued post-dated cheques to the lenders at the time of taking loan.
Krishna Mohan took a loan of Rs. 4.5 lakhs from Mr. Venkateswara Rao and gave him cheques for Rs. 4.92 lakhs. Similarly, he took a loan of Rs. 10.10 lakhs from Ms. Lakshmi Rani and gave her cheques for Rs. 11.07 lakhs and a loan of Rs. 6.40 lakhs from Mr. Venugopala Rao and gave him cheques for Rs. 7.01 lakhs. The cheques given to all parties bounced.
