Review of Apex court judgment sought

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Supreme Court judgment on quota in unaided private colleges came in for adverse comments from several social and student organisations.

While the State committees of the Kulavivaksha Vyathireka Sangham (organisation against caste discrimination), Andhra Pradesh Girijana Sangham and Awaaz, in a joint statement, described the ruling as "unfortunate", the Progressive Democratic Students' Union asked for its review.

Leaders of the three organisations -- John Vesley, Mohd. Abbas and K.Lakshmana Rao respectively-- said the ruling would pave the way for injustice to Dalits, Girijans and people belonging to weaker sections, who were already being subjected to "social repression." It was unfortunate that the ruling came at a time when there was a demand for reservations in the private sector, the statement said.
