Mentally challenged children to take part

HYDERABAD: Special Olympics Bharat Andhra Pradesh is holding State-level games for mentally challenged children from August 16 to 18.

Over 400 children from all the districts and another 600 from the city will take part in the athletic and team events to be held at Gachibowli stadium, said area director I.H. Surati.

Minister for Sports M. Satyanarayana Rao will inaugurate the games on Tuesday.

Winners of the district-level competitions at Guntur, Kakinada, Vizag, Kurnool and Hyderabad circles, both boys and girls, will be taking part. Athletics events and 14 team events include basketball, badminton, bocce, cricket and cycling.

Children will be categorised according to their abilities and age groups: 8 to 11, 12 to 15, 16 to 21, 22 to 29 and those above 29 years of age.
