PMK holds meeting on reservation for women

Special Correspondent

PONDICHERRY: The Pattali Makkal Katchi parliamentary party leader, M. Ramadass, convened a meeting here on Sunday with leaders of political parties, representatives of the State Women's Commission, voluntary organisations and women's fora to seek their views on the proposed Bill on reservation for women in legislatures and Parliament.

Legislators belonging to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, office-bearers of the Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee, delegates of the Pattali Makkal Katchi, All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Rashtriya Janata Dal, chairmen of statutory bodies and delegates of a host of political parties participated.

Seema Devi, chairperson of the Smiles Service Society, and a Congress functionary made a case for thirty three percent reservation for women. Support for bill should not be a lip service. Mr. Ramadass said there could be no two opinions on quota for women in legislative bodies.
