CHENNAI: N. Vittal, former central vigilance commissioner, has been a crusader against corruption. So when he threw open the forum for questions after delivering a speech on "The right to information" at a meeting organised by the Madras Library Association in the city recently, it was only natural that many were eager to know his views on his favourite topic. "Is it possible to create awareness among people to eliminate corruption, something like that shown in "Anniyan" movie," a youngster wanted to know. Vittal smiled before he answered: "I just know the formula how to achieve that but not the means," he said. "The secret is in what a French man Alexis De Tocqueville said: If the inevitable become intolerable, then the people will rebel. Right now, we have taken corruption as being inevitable. It is now up to us to make it intolerable in the eyes of the public." He also said he had watched recent Tamil movies that had the main protagonist rallying against corruption, including the Vijayakant-starrer `Ramana'. Mr. Vittal also presented the Dr. Suseela Kumar Memorial Award to Fazlunissa Syed, who was named the best student passing out Master Programme of Faculty of Library and Information Science, University of Madras.
