TAMBARAM: : A three-day `International Vision Science and Optometry Conference,' organised by the Elite School of Optometry, began here on Saturday. The conference is organised by the institution in connection with the celebrations to mark its twentieth anniversary. Sixteen specialist from abroad would be delivering keynote addresses during the course of the conference. Over 600 delegates from India, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, the United States, Sri Lanka and the U.K. are expected to attend the meet. The conference gives an opportunity for students and practising optometrists to interact with the forerunners in the profession. At the inaugural session on Saturday evening, Jay M. Enoch, Dean Emeritus, School of Optometry, University of California, Berkeley, delivered the plenary talk on "Archaeological Optics: The very first known mirrors and lenses." H.R. Nagendran, Vice-Chancellor of the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandha Samsthan (deemed university), Bangalore, spoke on "Basis for an integrated approach of yoga therapy for Ophthalmic disorders." T.S. Surendran, and K. Ravishankar, vice-chairman and chief executive officer of the Medical Research Foundation, spoke.
