NEW DELHI: The Factories (Amendment) Bill, 2005, permitting women to work in the night shifts, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Union Labour and Employment Minister K. Chandra Sekhara Rao introduced the Bill which envisages that the employer ensures occupational safety and adequate protection to the women employed. The proposed amendment will also result in optimal utilisation of the installed capacity, promotion of exports and generation of employment opportunities for women, according to the statement of objects and reasons. The owner of the factory has to ensure occupational health, equal opportunity for women workers, adequate protection to their dignity, honour and safety and their transportation from the factory premises to the nearest point of their residence.
