Rihand project begins commercial operations

NEW DELHI: The 500-MW unit of the Rihand Super Thermal Power Station of the NTPC in Uttar Pradesh has begun commercial operations. The station has a commercial capacity of 1500 MWs and part of it supplements power for Delhi.

Rihand is situated in the Vindhyachal region, about 250 km from Varanasi on the Madhya Pradesh border.

Apart from Rihand, there exist other NTPC projects that light up states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir.

Within a 40-km radius, the region hosts three super-thermal projects.
