Tirupati municipal workers stage demonstration

Special Correspondent

ROAD SHOW: Staff and workers belonging to the Tirupati municipality staging a dharna in front of their office on Tuesday as part of the Statewide stir.

TIRUPATI: Normal work was thrown out of gear in the municipal office here following the boycott of duties by its staff and workers in response to the call given by the AP Municipal Employees and Workers Joint Council of Associations and Unions.

The JCAU has given the call for a statewide boycott protesting against the alleged indifferent attitude of the successive governments towards their 19-point charter of demands.

Leaders of various unions and associations addressing the workers after their demonstrations in front of their office here lamented that though the JCAU representatives took delegations to the Chief Minister, Municipal Minister and the Secretary, Municipal Administration and presented them representations several times during the last one year, none has taken any initiative to address their problems.

Threaten stir

They warned that municipal staff and workers throughout the State would go on a strike from August 21 if the Government did not respond positively to their proposed delegation to the Chief Minister once again in the meantime.
