THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram District Table Tennis Association will be hosting this year's Southern India National ranking table tennis championship at the Agriculture College indoor hall, Vellayani, near here from September 21 to 25. An organising committee press release here on Tuesday said the event was being held in Thiruvananthapuram for the fourth time after 1974, 1993 and 1993. Being one of the premier events in the National TT calendar, this five-day meet is likely to see in action all the top ranking players of the country including National champions S. Raman (men) and Poulami Ghatak (women). The event will feature singles competitions in six sections - men, women, junior boys, sub-junior boys, junior girls and sub-junior girls. More than 600 players from all across the country will be competing in the championship that is offering a total prize fund of Rs. 1, 65,000. As the host unit, the TDTTA has constituted an organising committee with G. Rajamohan as chairman, Titus C. Philipose as director of competitions, H. Krishnamoorthy as chief organising secretary, E. Rejikumar as organising secretary and N. Ganeshan as general convenor for the successful conduct of the championship. The release also confirmed that the eight-time former National champion Kamlesh Mehta would train the Kerala team for the championship.
