CHENNAI:
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) organised its annual painting competition at the AVM Rajeswari Kalyana Mahal on Tuesday.
Children from around 200 schools in the city competed in the sub-junior, junior, senior and super-senior categories for various prizes. Jayaraj, magazine illustrator, and G. Govindaraj, art director, will judge the entries.
The youngest children coloured pictures, supplied by the SPCA. The juniors illustrated the topic `My house and my dog's house.' Seniors chose between `A Bird's Sanctuary,' or `A safe visit to the woods. The super-senior category drew either `A visit to the zoo,' or `If your pet were a monkey.' The painting competition, held yearly from 1970, had around 1,000 participants last year. Winners receive the M Shantha Memorial prize, an endowment given by an animal lover, and other consolation prizes.
