Bomb hoax keeps schools on tenterhooks

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: At least half a dozen schools in central Chennai were closed on Tuesday, after one of them received a bomb threat.

According to police, a call was received by the principal of a private school in Vepery around 8.45 a.m. that a bomb would explode in the school. Police, after checking out the school with sniffer dogs, said it was a hoax.

When the news spread, panic-stricken parents rushed to the school and brought their wards back home. Children from one school in Vepery, two schools in Ayanavaram and one in Elephant Gate were taken home by their parents, police added.
