Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Ramapuram, Pallavaram, Tondiarpet, Ayanavaram and Triplicane from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday for maintenance work.

Technical symposium

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Sriperumbudur, conducted its annual national technical symposium last week.

Papers were presented and some 150 students participated in events such as quiz, circuit hunt, adzap and dumb charades. Students of the college presented working models of a burglar interceptor and a hydro power plant.

School annual day

Four schools managed by Rajasthani Jain Samaj Educational Trust celebrated annual day last week.

The theme of the celebrations was `conservation of environment.' K.C. Chakrabarty, chairman and managing director of Indian Bank and S.P. Thyagarajan, Vice- Chancellor of Madras University participated.

Eye camp

Over 90 persons were screened at a free eye camp held at Corporation High School at Kamaraj Colony in Kodambakkam jointly by Rajan Eye Care Hospital, Rotary Club of Madras, T. Nagar and Ilaya Bharatham Friends Association.

About 25 patients were referred to the hospital for cataract surgery and free medicines and spectacles were given to more than 30 others.

Traffic awareness presentation

Six hundred NCC cadets from various colleges and students participated in a traffic awareness presentation made by K.C. Mahali, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic. K. Sethuraman, principal of A.M. Jain College, Meenambakkam, where the programme was held also participated.

Memory technique competition

The first UC MAS all-India memory technique competition will be held in the city on August 28.

About 300 children aged 12-20 will participate in the event to be held in Anna Nagar.

Training development

The Indian Society for Training Development (ISTD) of the GSS Jain College for Women was inaugurated last week. Prabakar, chairman, ISTD cell, participated in the programme and explained the operational structure of the cell.

Medical camp

National Union of Journalists (Tamil Nadu State), Rotary Rajan Eye Care Hospital will conduct a multi-speciality medical camp for the children of Ashraya on August 19.

The Southern Railway General Manager, Thomas Varghese, will inaugurate the camp.

Rosie Thomas, president, Southern Railway Women's Welfare Organisation will distribute gifts to the children.
