CHENNAI:
The Institute of Indian Foundrymen (IIF) has decided to upgrade the skills of its workforce through training, a measure it hopes would ensure enough supply of skilled workers to foundries.
Training programmes are critical for the industry as the domestic market is growing and foreign firms plan to outsource their requirements to India, IIF leaders told reporters here on Tuesday, the eve of the 55th anniversary of the institute, which is also celebrated as the national foundry day. The institute recently launched an advanced diploma course in foundry technology in Ahmedabad. It will extend the programme to other parts of the country. IIF has plans for a foundry research and development centre here for which it would soon seek land from the State Government.
The leaders, including P.N. Bhagwati, vice-president of the World Foundrymen Organisation and Sanjay Shroff, IIF southern region chairman, said investment on the R and D centre would be Rs.10 crores.
