Relative arrested for assault

NEW DELHI: A distant relative of a 32-year-old widow of a Class IV Air Force employee has been arrested on charges of criminal assault.

According to the police, the woman's husband died a year ago and she was living with her eight-year-old son. She had registered a complaint with the Vasant Vihar police alleging that Raj Roop, a resident of Panipat, had been criminally assaulting her for the past one year. The accused has been arrested.

In another incident, a man, identified as Pradeep, allegedly molested an eight-year-old girl at Okhla on July 22. The accused was known to the girl's family, who registered a complaint on August 15. The accused has been arrested.

Man arrested

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly abducting a 16-year-old girl from Najafgarh in South-West Delhi and taking her to Bihar.

The father of the girl lodged a complaint alleging that Pawan, a resident of Roshanpura, had abducted her. The police registered a case and launched a hunt for the accused. He was traced and arrested.

During interrogation, Pawan allegedly revealed that he was in love with the girl and she had eloped with him to Bihar. The girl has been handed over to her parents.

6 held for burglaries

NEW DELHI: Six persons belonging to the Bhagaria tribe of Rajasthan have been arrested by the New Delhi police for alleged involvement in several cases of burglary. The police claim to have recovered knives, a country-made revolver, a colour television set and Rs. 60,000 in cash from the accused.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Gyarasa, Bhopal, Om Prakash, Nandram, Ramdhan and Ghisaram, were arrested at Malviya Nagar in South Delhi on Monday.

The police said the gang, hailing from Rajasthan, would come to Delhi and sell newspapers and other articles at traffic intersections and spend the night in parks. Once familiar with the area, the gang members would reach a particular colony in an auto-rickshaw along with their women-folk. The women would then go around looking for locked houses to carry out burglary. The police claimed to have solved 30 cases of burglaries reported from the posh areas of South Delhi.

Alleged suicide

NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old woman allegedly hanged herself to death in her house at Hazrat Nizamuddin in South Delhi on Tuesday.

Mithilesh, wife of Mohar Singh, was found hanging from the ceiling fan around 12 noon. The police did not find any suicide note. Mithilesh was married to Mohar, who runs a public telephone booth at Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, in 1989 and has a son and daughter from him. The police have initiated inquest proceedings into the matter.

Another suicide

NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his rented accommodations at Rajouri Garden in West Delhi on Tuesday.

According to the police, Bijender, a resident of Raghubir Nagar in Rajouri Garden, was found dead on Tuesday morning. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. Preliminary investigations revealed that Bijender used to deal in old clothes.
