Health workers on hunger strike

NEW DELHI: Health employees in the Capital have gone on a 50-hour hunger strike beginning 12 noon on Tuesday demanding that the Union Health Ministry pay immediate attention to their long-pending demands.

Union leaders of the four Central Government hospitals in the Capital including Safdarjung, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Kalawati Hospital sat in protest in front of their respective hospitals, while leaders of the Central Health Employees' Federation sat on dharna near Nirman Bhavan.

According to a release by the Central Health Employees' Federation, the hunger strike is being observed in all health institutions across the country.

The employee are demanding, among other things, removal of privatisation of services in the health sector, filling up of vacant posts, settlement of all anomalies pending in the Anomaly Committee of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and at least four sets of uniform be given to all health employees.
