HYDERABAD: Leaders of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Employees, Teachers and Workers, which represents about 10 lakh government employees, served a notice on the Government on Wednesday evening on their decision to go on an indefinite strike from midnight of September 5 on the issue of the eighth Pay Revision Commission.

The notice was handed over to the Chief Secretary, Mohan Kanda, by a group of leaders, including B. V. Subba Rao, chairman, JAC, B. Mohan Reddy, co-chairman, V. Gopal Reddy and K. Swami Goud, general secretaries respectively of the AP NGOs' Association and Telangana NGOs' Union, main constituents of the JAC.

The Chief Secretary was stated to have advised the leaders against going on agitation but the latter insisted on the direct action saying that there was inordinate delay by the Government in announcing its stand on the six demands put forth by them. Mr. Subba Rao told The Hindu later that was there was no response from the Government and that none was bothered about the JAC's demands or calling it for discussions.

Six demands

The six demands include 30 per cent fitment benefit to all employees across the board under the Pay Revision Commission, reduction of slabs to 72 from 84 as suggested by the commission, a 50 per cent hike in all the allowances and removal ceiling on house rent allowance.

Meanwhile, the JAC and its constituents resolved to stage a mass dharna in Hyderabad on Thursday.

The JAC is mobilising a large number of employees from all the districts.
