National sailing from today

A. Joseph Antony

HYDERABAD: Come the National Laser sailing championships and they are usually seen criss-crossing the Hussain Sagar lake at high speeds. This time round, the Boat Assault Universal Type (BAUT) craft are conspicuous by their absence. They are yet to return from flood relief operations in Mumbai.

Nonetheless, eight motor boats, requisitioned from various sources, will be on the ready for rescue operations during the Hyderabad Sailing Week, said Milind Prabhu of the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME). The said organisation will conduct the nine-race regatta along with the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP), AP Tourism and the Secunderabad Club from August 19 to 23. The five-day meet will be sponsored by the State Bank of Hyderabad.

As many as 65 sailors will take the starter's hooter, a record number in the event's 20th edition.
