Letters to the Editor
Kudos to West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee for deciding to withdraw the hand-pulled rickshaws from the streets of Kolkata (Aug. 15). It is shameful that in the 21st century men continue to pull a rickshaw with other men sitting in it. The alternative promised by Mr. Bhattacharjee should come soon.

The hand-pulled rickshaw was an eyesore in the City of Joy and the decision that it will be phased out is a relief. Simultaneously, the poor rickshaw-pullers must be provided suitable employment.
