NEW DELHI: A trial court here on Thursday awarded death sentence to a 24-year-old young man, holding him guilty of killing a woman and her two-year-old daughter for what he alleged "avenging" the snatching of his lucrative post by the woman's husband. Sentencing the convict, Sushil Kumar, the Additional Sessions Judge Lal Singh said: "The victims, Anita and her daughter, Megha, were killed in the most cruel manner, and I am of the view that it is a rarest of rare case inviting the maximum punishment." However, the execution is subject to its confirmation by the Delhi High Court. Mr. Singh directed his court staff to send the case file to the High Court within 30 days of the pronouncement of the judgement. The husband of the deceased, Anil Kumar, in his evidence told the court that he knew Sushil for over five years before the incident as they were neighbours and worked together in the same company. Sushil did not like the transfer of his job to him (Anil) by the company and he used quarrel with him quite frequently over the issue, Anil Kumar said. Thereafter, Sushil and Amlesh, another accused in case who was declared a proclaimed offender by the court during the trial, hatched a conspiracy to kill his wife and daughter, Anil Kumar said. On January 28, 2002, the convict first strangulated the kid and then her mother. The prosecution said that there 23 injury marks on the body of Anita.
