PALAKKAD: The UB group of industries plans to use rainwater harvesting in a big way for its water requirements in all its breweries. This was stated by its executive vice-president N. K. Mittal while talking to news reporters here on Thursday. He said the company's Kanjikode unit is meeting part of its requirement from rainwater harvesting introduced two years back. The plant that makes beer requires four lakh litres of water daily. Since some of its borewells went dry there was a shortage of water. The unit is partly getting its water supply from Malampuzha dam. But after introduction of rainwater harvesting the plant has not faced any water problem during the last two years, Mr. Mittal said. He said that a new brewery the company acquired in Kanjikode industrial area recently requires one lakh litres of water daily. Here also rainwater harvesting methods are being introduced. He was here to inaugurate the rainwater harvesting and drinking water project started by the company at Ganeshapuram Colony in Pudussery grama panchayat.
