Exnora founder gets Hamsadhwani award

CHENNAI: A "home beautifier" programme targeting women below the poverty line will soon be launched by Exnora International, M.B. Nirmal, the founder, said here on Thursday.

He was speaking at a function at after being conferred the 2005 distinguished citizen award presented by Hamsadhwani, a non-profit service organisation, working for the cause of culture, by N. Ravi, Editor of The Hindu .

Mass movement

Mr. Nirmal, who was honoured at the 16th anniversary celebrations of Hamsadhwani, thanked The Hindu for its sustained support to Exnora in all its endeavours and making it a mass movement. He also sought the cooperation of the general public to make the new home beautifier programme a success, as it would alleviate the sufferings of poor women, besides beautifying the homes.

Citation

M. Gopalakrishnan, former Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Bank and President of Hamsadhwani, read out the citation of the award. The award comprised of a plaque, a silk shawl and a memento. Mr. Ravi said that Hamsadhwani, under the stewardship of R. Ramachandran and other music lovers, had opened new vistas for culture in Chennai. The involvement of Non-Resident Indian musicians and artistes was an example.

The Chairman, Residency Group of Hotels, S. Appaswami, who presided, sought the help of philanthropists to extend a helping hand to the activities of Exnora International and its environmental magazine.

Earlier, Mr. Ramachandran, gave an account of the activities of Hamsadhwani since its inception in 1990.
