BANGALORE: A crucial meeting of the office-bearers of the Janata Dal (Secular) Karnataka State unit here on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution authorising national party president H.D. Deve Gowda to initiate disciplinary action against the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, two former Ministers H.C. Mahadevappa and Satish Jarkiholi and several legislators. Mr. Siddaramaiah and the others have been accused of anti-party activities. The meeting was attended by office-bearers, district party presidents, Ministers, legislators, former legislators and others. It was the first time that the office-bearers' meeting was held in the open at the Bangalore Palace. It was more a show of strength, and solidarity with Mr. Gowda. Mr. Gowda said he would stand by the commitment given to Congress president Sonia Gandhi on the coalition Government in the State. All the talk in recent weeks that the end of the Government is round the corner was based on rumours. While the All-India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of Karnataka affairs, A.K. Antony, had spiked the rumours during a visit to Bangalore on Wednesday, he was reiterate his statement, he said. It is unfortunate that a section of political leaders in the State are out to finish the coalition Government. Mr. Gowda said the JD(S) is based on programmes and policies and not on any individual. The party would not backstab the Congress high command as is being mentioned in certain quarters. If in his opinion the coalition agreement had to be terminated, he would personally call on Ms. Gandhi and inform her of the decision. On the frequent statements that the JD(S) is a family controlled party, Mr. Gowda said his son and working president of the JD(S), H.D. Kumaraswamy, will not be a part of the Government and will focus on building the party. His other son, H.D. Revanna, Minister for Public Works and Energy, will make a statement that he is not an aspirant for the post of Chief Minister. If the JD(S) wins over 120 seats in the next elections, the party seniors will select the legislature party leader, he said.
