CHENNAI:
The Pattali Makkal Katchi on Thursday demanded that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa take steps for enacting a law to take over the administration and properties of deemed universities in the State.
Referring to Ms. Jayalalithaa's statement on Tuesday the Government would take over the administration of higher professional education, if need be, PMK founder S. Ramadoss said the Chief Minister should demonstrate her sincerity by coming down on deemed universities which were flouting the principle of reservation while admitting students and determining the admission system, fee structure and examinations on their own.
Centre's announcement a victory
On the Centre's announcement to hold a meeting of State Education Ministers for evolving a national approach, Dr. Ramadoss called it a "victory" for the Democratic Progressive Alliance.
`Form panel'
He suggested that the Government constitute a high-powered committee, comprising a former vice-chancellor, an educationist and a representative each of non-governmental organisations, students and lawyers.
The panel should probe the formation and growth of self-financing colleges.
The Government should publish a White Paper, he said.
