`Continue Vandemaataram spirit'

Mega run organised to mark the centenary of the movement



SENSE OF PATRIOTISM: Children participating in a run organised by the Vandemaataram movement celebrations committee in Vijayawada on Thursday.

VIJAYAWADA: The centenary celebrations committee of Vandemaataram movement on Thursday organised a mega run from Thummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram to Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium to mark the centenary of the movement.

Students in large numbers from local schools and colleges participated in the mega run that proceeded through Eluru Road, Besant Road and Bandar Road.Secretary of the committee R. Lakshmi Narayana recalled India's independence struggle and said that freedom fighters recited `Vandemaataram' like a hymn and fought against the British. He called upon students to continue the spirit of the movement by relinquishing foreign clothes and goods. Students of Siddhartha educational institutions, Vignana Vihara School, Noble Kids School, H.M.K. Public School, Brilliants School, Vikas Public School, Sarada College and Bharati Public School participated in the run. Committee members - Omkara Narasimham, Sunil, K. Suresh Kumar - and others were present.
