State Election Commissioner interacts with representatives of 24 recognsied parties

HYDERABAD: Representatives of recognised political parties on Thursday urged the State Election Commission (SEC) to ensure that elections to chairperson posts of municipalities and corporations be held immediately after the election of ward members.

The State Election Commissioner, A.V.S. Reddy, who interacted with representatives of 24 recognised political parties however explained that the sheer logistics involved would require at least three clear days between chairperson and ward elections.

The Telugu Desam Party general secretary, Kadiam Srihari, said the exercise for enumeration and fixing of reservations for the backward classes had several loopholes.

Electoral rolls

Mr. Reddy replied that wherever complaints were received, the SEC was acting on them. As far as the electoral rolls were concerned, the SEC was strictly going by those prepared by the Election Commission of India. However, inclusions and exclusions were an ongoing exercise, he said, adding that individual voters could still approach the officials concerned to get their names included.
