Kalam to open silver jubilee of Vijnana Parishat
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will inaugurate the silver jubilee celebrations of the Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat on Saturday.
The Parishat, which was set up in 1980 to promote and inculcate scientific temper among children and youth, has as its flagship activity the publication of the monthly, "Balavijnana" in Kannada, which has pioneered popular science literature and its propagation and communication.
The Parishat Secretary, H.S. Niranjan Aradhya, told presspersons here on Thursday that "Balavijnana" has a readership of 15,000 and the Department of Education subscribes to 10,000 copies for distribution in schools.
Doyens such as H. Narasimhaiah have been associated with the Parishat since its inception, as its founder-members.
It was created as an adjunct to the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology.
