Five run over by tempo, three killed

NEW DELHI: Three persons were killed and two others sustained injuries when a tempo ran over them while they were asleep on the footpath at Delhi Gate in Central Delhi in the early hours of Thursday. The tempo driver, who fled after abandoning the vehicle, was arrested later.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. when the tempo, bearing an Uttar Pradesh registration number, ran over the victims, who were rickshaw pullers. They were rushed to hospital, where three of them were declared dead on arrival. The police said one of the two injured was later discharged after treatment.

The tempo driver, Mukesh Kumar, was later traced and arrested.

CRPF cops arrested

NEW DELHI: Two constables of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been arrested by the East Delhi police for allegedly misbehaving with a woman at Mayur Vihar in East Delhi on Wednesday. The incident had snowballed into a law and order problem when the CRPF constables allegedly beat up the victim's brother.

The incident occurred at Budh Bazar in Mayur Vihar, Phase-III, around 9 p.m. The two constables allegedly misbehaved with a woman and when her brother objected to it, the constables beat him up. The victims raised an alarm following which many people gathered at the spot and began pelting stones at the CRPF personnel. The police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. They have also charged the constables with causing injury.
