High voltage power box posing a threat

Staff Reporter

A real threat

NEW DELHI: An uncovered high-voltage power distribution box in Lodhi Colony here has been posing a serious threat to the lives of hundreds of school children and residents of the area for the past two months. Despite repeated reminders by the residents, the New Delhi Municipal Council is yet to take any action.

According to people living in the 200-odd Government flats at Lodhi Colony on Lodhi Road, the covers of the power box near Block 9 have been missing for the past two months. "The high-voltage electrical box is right next to the main road and an accident can happen any time,'' said a resident.

Also, there are three NDMC schools in the vicinity and hundreds of students pass through the route daily. "The children can come in direct contact with the 440-volt distribution system. Similarly, residents of the colony are also under direct threat," he said.

An NDMC employee who lives in the colony said there were several high-voltage distribution pillars in the locality and its covers were often taken away by unscrupulous and mischievous elements. "We have been requesting the civic body to make proper security arrangement so that covers do not disappear. Usually NDMC authorities respond quickly and restore missing covers of distribution pillars. However, this time round they have failed to do so despite repeated complaints," he added.
