NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to jointly pay Rs. 10,000 each to two candidates for advertising an impermissible qualification for appointment as assistant teachers (primary) in schools run by them. Holding the State Government and the Corporation guilty of including B.Ed. as a qualification for appointment to the above-mentioned post despite a Supreme Court ruling to the contrary, Justice S. Ravindra Bhat, directed the two respondents to pay the amount to the two petitioners as costs and later recover them from the salary of the officials responsible for inclusion of the impermissible qualification in the advertisement issued by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) for appointment to the post. The costs shall be paid within six weeks from the date of the pronouncement of the judgment, the Judge said. Quashing the advertisement to the extent of inviting applications from candidates having B.Ed. degrees for appointment to the post of assistant teacher, the Judge directed the Government and the local body to proceed and finalise the appointments in respect of the post of assistant teacher by ensuring that the candidates who possessed two years' teachers training diploma, among other qualifications, were considered, and those having B.Ed degrees were not recruited.
