CHENNAI: Anna University has a new reason to rejoice. On Thursday, seven of its undergraduate students were recruited by IT major Microsoft, for the highest pay package to date, ever since its State-wide recruitment began.

The seven youngsters, including a woman, who have entered the fourth year engineering at the College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG), will get a package of Rs.12.80 lakhs, including a salary of over Rs. 5 lakhs an annum.

Vice Chancellor D. Viswanathan who gave the information was excited.

The Director of the Centre for University-Industry Collaboration (which looks after campus placement), Mannar Jawahar, did not expect a company such as Microsoft to take on board more than three or five recruits this time.

"Unlike Infosys, Wipro or Cognizant, which take students in hundreds, Microsoft takes only a few. But seven students, that too at such big cost to the company, was quite unexpected," he said.

M. Vijay Balaji, Kartik Singaram, Lenin Ravindranath, Amal Joe Gladwin, Prasad R.M and G. Madan, from B.E Computer Sciences and Engineering and K. Bhuvaneswari from B. Tech Information Technology will join Microsoft next June.
