NAGAPATTINAM: People's Development Association (PDA), a Madurai-based non-governmental organisation has started construction of 177 permanent houses for tsunami victims in Vellapallam village in Nagapattinam district on Thursday. N. Subbaiyan, Revenue Divisional Officer, laid the foundation stone. Joe Velu, Director of PDA, said on Friday that the district administration had allotted lands for constructing 177 houses and the PDA had roped in two more NGOs — Thanjavur Multipurpose Social Service Society and Peace Trust, Dindigul — for executing the project.

Mr. Velu said PDA would construct 166 more houses for tsunami victims in the second phase in the same area.
