VISAKHAPATNAM: `Taru Bandhan' was celebrated by Jagruti, the community service club of Gitam Institute of Foreign Trade (GIFT), as its eco-friendly project on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Friday. Invitees and students tied rakhis to the trees and took a pledge to preserve the entire plant population in the vicinity during their lifetime and salute the trees and nature as part of the programme. Former Chairman of Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority S.A. Rehaman administered the pledge to students. He appreciated the innovative programme undertaken by the GIFTians and advised Jagruti to take up blood donation campaigns by naming them `Rakta Bandhan.'
Eco protection
Gitam Engineering College Principal V.V. Kutumba Rao and environmental engineering professor from Andhra University S. Ramakrishna Rao underscored the importance of environmental protection by creating awareness on planting and protection of trees. Jagruti president Deepika Swain chaired the function. GIFT director K. Ranganathan and chairman of student activities wing Gan Bhukta spoke.
